Jane Technologies
Head of Data Growth
07/2019 – 11/2020·Santa Cruz, CA (remote-friendly)
Context
Owned the creation of Jane's analytics & insights business from scratch. Three customer segments:
1. Retailers — dispensary-level analytics for operators. 2. CPG brands — sell-through data for cannabis brand marketers. 3. Investors / researchers / industry analysts — macro-level insights (a separate product SKU).
Owned MVP requirements, product roadmap priorities, feedback loops with the largest Jane clients (making sure new products drove retention and net-new revenue), full sales funnel (cold outreach → demo → SoW), and the sales-enablement authoring (decks, demos, objection scripts) that later hires inherited.
Worked directly with the C-suite (CEO, CRO, CFO) to align data strategy with company goals.
How Tim got the pull
The Jane C-suite asked Tim to develop new businesses off the back of his GM performance. The first new business they attacked together was data — leveraging the standardized POS-to-catalog reconciliation work Jane's engineering was already doing.
Personal upskilling
- Infonomics I & II certificates from Coursera — Tim went deep on the emerging discipline of data monetization to sharpen the product thesis.DataStrategy
Infrastructure decisions
- Oversaw rollout of Snowflake as Jane's back-end data platform — chosen to speed up new-feature development and enable cross-source data unification.DataProductStrategy
Interview-safe stories
- "Data monetization when it was still a niche discipline." The Infonomics certificate + Snowflake rollout are the mechanism.DataStrategy
